Welcome and Namaste

Sangita Devi is a kirtan group based out of Asheville, North Carolina. We share devotional music and teach workshops both nationally and locally. Please explore our website to find further information and resources to deepen your knowledge and understanding of kirtan and bhakti yoga.

Kirtan is bhakti yoga, the path of devotion, the path of the heart. It is a tradition and spiritual practice which can bring us to a deep place of tranquility and ecstatic bliss through chanting the divine names. Most people think of yoga as hatha yoga, postures and exercises for the body. But yoga is an ancient system designed to exercise all aspects of the human being and ultimately bring us to a more enlightened state of awareness and living.

The origin of the word kirtan in the Sanskrit language means to 'sing holy praises.' kirtan roots come from India where people gathered in the streets singing and praising the names of the divine in joy and delight as they lost themselves into bliss.

Kirtan is a spiritual discipline aimed at concentrating the mind on one's Beloved Deity. Through that one-pointedness, one can merge in the Divine Being and experience the Bliss of One's True Self.
